Fourth of July Downtown Mile Race Details!

IMG_5961Team Run Flagstaff and the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce are proud to present the 3rd Annual Downtown Mile at 7 a.m. on July 4, 2014 on the streets of historic downtown Flagstaff, beginning and ending at Heritage Square.

The Downtown Mile attracts runners of all levels – from Olympians to first-time runners. And plenty of fun is in store, including a raffle full of amazing prizes like Lumberyard Brewing Company and Karma Sushi gift certificates, private coaching and training plans from TRF Pro athletes, and more!

We encourage you to race in your best red, white and blue-themed gear to celebrate the holiday. There will be prizes awarded for BEST COSTUME (individual and group theme!) and a raffle for all participants after the race!

Online registration is now open via Chronotrack, but will close in the early evening on July 2, 2014. You may register in person during packet pick up from 4-6 p.m. on July 3, 2014 at Run Flagstaff (204A East Rt. 66) or from 6-6:45 a.m. on July 4, 2014 at Heritage Square. Online pre-registration is $35  and in-person registration is $45 (cash or check only).

There’s no COOLER place to be than Flagstaff on the Fourth!

Please Note: You may choose your race category based on your preferences and goals, however you may ONLY compete in the race for which you are registered, so choose wisely!

Masters Race: 
40 is the new 29, but we still have a race for you! Ages 40 & Up.
7 a.m. – Masters Men start
7:01 a.m. – Masters Women start
Awards: First Overall M/F, First M/F in Ages 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ (no duplicates)

 All ages and abilities welcomed! Dress up in your best “Patriotic Pride” gear and be eligible to win a prize for best costume.
7:17 a.m. – Men’s Citizens Start
7:18 a.m. – Women’s Citizens Start
Awards – First overall male and female; First in Age Groups: 11 & under, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ Elite Race:
 You know who you are. Competitive runners competing for prize purses.
7:34 a.m. – Elite Men’s Start
7:35 a.m. - Elite Women’s Start
Awards: First Three Overall M/F cash prizes!

Pre-register online to reserve a bib. Kids also eligible for the costume contest! (Note: Kids will not receive technical race tees, but will receive a prize at the finish line!)

2014 Snowbowl Hill Climb Race Information!

Thank you for your interest in for the Team Run Flagstaff Snowbowl Road Hill Climb. We appreciate your participation and support and wish you a successful and enjoyable racing experience!

Date: Sunday, July 20, 2014
Time: 7:30 a.m.
Place: Starting line is at the bottom of Snowbowl Road at Highway 180
Race Description: There’s only one hill! It is about 7 miles with 2,200 feet of vertical gain. Want to have 100% of the fun with one-third of the work? Get two friends and register for the three 3-person relay division!
Online Registration: Via Chronotrack until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 18 or until spaces fill. Don’t delay! Click here to register!

Cost: For individuals:
  • May 1-June 30—$40.00
  • July 1-July 18—$45.00
  • Packet Pickup or Race Day—$50.00
For 3-Person Relay Teams:
  • Until July 18—$105.00
  • Packet Pickup or Race Day—$135.00
Packet pick-up and late registration will be from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Run Flagstaff (204 East Route 66).
  • For those who’d like to sign up after online registration closes at noon on Friday, July 18, registration forms will be available during packet pick up. The fee is $45 (individual) or $135 (3-person relay team) in cash or check made to Team Run Flagstaff.
  • If you are picking up your race packet or registering on RACE DAY, you may do so from 5:30-6:15 a.m. at the finish line area at Agassiz Lodge deck. Runners who are unable to pick up their packets or register on Saturday MUST proceed up the hill to the finish line area the morning of the race to receive race materials, so plan your time accordingly. Please note: the field is capped, so late registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
On race morning, runners should plan for at least a 20-minute drive to the top of Snowbowl Road to the designated parking areas (Lots #1 and #2). Agassiz Lodge restrooms open at 5:30 a.m. and portable toilets will be available at the starting line at the bottom of Snowbowl Rd.

School buses will be located near the parking lot. The first bus will shuttle runners to the base of the road at 6:30 a.m. The last bus(es) will leave at 6:45 a.m. Any runners arriving at the base of the hill (Highway 180 & Snowbowl Rd.) later than 6:20 a.m. will be held at the Ft. Valley Lodge parking lot. Drop bags can be taken with you on the bus and can be left at the start line area. They will be taken to the finish line.
Buses will be making sweep stops at relay exchange points to pick up relay runners. Relay teams will receive more information on exchange and pick-up zones closer to race day via email.
Please make sure your race bib number is completely visible from the front. A hidden bib number may cause results and time inaccuracies.
There will be three aid stations/relay exchange zones. Freidlein Prairie Road (2.3 miles), Viet Springs (4.3 miles), and Aspen Corner (6 miles). The aid stations will all be on the left side of the road. The cutoff times are as follows:
  • Freidlein Prairie Road - 8:15 a.m.
  • Viet Springs - 9 a.m.
  • Aspen Corner - 9:45 a.m.
Runners arriving at these aid stations later than these times will be held at the aid station to be picked up by a race shuttle vehicle. All participants made the cutoffs in previous years and the last finisher finished in 1:45 (walking a majority of the route).
RUN ON THE LEFT! STAY LEFT! We cannot stress this enough! Our Forest Service permit (and the future of the race) is conditional upon all the runners staying as far left on the roadway as possible. Please do NOT take tangents (as tempting as it may be). Please help us maintain our ability to continue this race by staying as far left on the road as possible, at all times!
Finish line: As runners approach the top parking lots, they will make a right-hand, 90 degree turn into Lot #2 (second lot from top). There will be a short 200-meter straightaway through the parking lot. Pass through the opening in the logs at the end of the parking lot, continue on the sidewalk 50m to the finish line in front of Agassiz Lodge. Post-race snacks and drinks will be located on the lodge deck. Breakfast burritos will be available for purchase from inside the Agassiz Lodge. Beer will also be sold on the deck!

Now for the fun stuff!

Unique challenges: 
  • Pay 'N Take Fastest First Mile: First male and female runner to the 1 mile mark who still finish the race get $50 each!
  • Mama Burger Challenge: Fastest male and female runner to eat a double cheeseburger (must finish it completely before resuming run) and finish the race gets $100 each!  Split times will be recorded from the time contestants begin eating the burger to the finish line. Winners will be determined on who has the fastest split, not who gets to the finish first. So, anyone in the race, potentially, could win the challenge. A total of 20 burgers (12 meat & 8 veggie) will be available—contestants will be “served” on a first come, first served basis.
  • Wilkens Sports Chiropractic/Flagstaff Design Center Middle of the Pack: The exact middle of the pack finisher gets $100 + a $200 gift certificate to the Flagstaff Design Center! (will be split if there is an even number of finishers).
IMG_4164Award ceremony will be held on the deck of the Agassiz Lodge at approximately 10 a.m. Prize money for Top 3 overall male and female will be $200/$100/$50. Masters and age group prizes will be awarded. Great raffle prizes from Kahtoola, Run Flagstaff, Road ID, the Lumberyard Brewing Company, Karma Sushi, TRF Pro, and more!
